PWAtoApp vs Median: One-Time Builds or a Licensed App Platform?
November 7, 2026 · 6 min read
PWAtoApp and Median offer different ways to deliver a web product on Android and iOS. PWAtoApp charges €49.99 once for unlimited APK, AAB and IPA builds with release signing, using a prepared mobile source ZIP. Median’s Starter pricing lists a $229 activation fee and $179 per year beginning after the first 12 months; its license covers one app’s iOS and Android versions. PWAtoApp fits owners who mainly need build access. Median may fit teams seeking its configurable app platform and native integrations. Compare the required features and recurring costs, not just the initial payment.

This is a comparison of published offers and documented workflows, not a hands-on performance benchmark. Competitor prices can change; check the linked plan and checkout before purchasing. Prices stay in their advertised currencies, without currency conversion or a claimed savings multiplier.
Who is this comparison for?
If your working website needs an app-store presence, decide whether you want to maintain a prepared mobile project or use a provider’s app configuration and integration platform. This guide separates package price, license scope and the work you still own, so a lower starting cost does not hide a missing requirement.
Median’s activation fee is not its complete ongoing cost
| Cost or scope | PWAtoApp | Median Starter |
|---|---|---|
| Initial advertised charge | €49.99 once | $229 activation |
| Annual platform fee | No recurring build-package charge | $179/year starting in 12 months |
| Initial plus first annual renewal | €49.99 build-package fee | $408 ($229 + $179) |
| Platform coverage | Android APK/AAB and iOS IPA builds | One licensed app’s iOS and Android versions |
| Extra scope | Personal support optional; own store accounts required | Check tier, plugin and service charges |
These figures come from Median’s official pricing page. Higher listed tiers have $590 activation plus $399/year, or $990 activation plus $669/year. Its license documentation explains the one-app, both-platform scope. Verify which tier contains your required capabilities before treating Starter as your budget.
For an illustrative budget, the Starter activation plus the first annual renewal totals $408. This is arithmetic from the advertised fees, not an all-in project quote. Optional services, store memberships, tax and hosting are separate. We do not compare €49.99 with $408 as though they were the same currency or claim an exact savings multiplier.
Compare a build service with an app platform
Median’s documentation describes its app platform, configuration and native integrations. Explore the official Median documentation for your exact requirements. A business that needs a documented integration and a provider-specific configuration workflow should evaluate those capabilities, plan restrictions and maintenance implications.
PWAtoApp compiles compatible mobile source that you supply. Signing is included in the package, but preparing a suitable source project and implementing native features are not automatically done for you. If your web product uses server rendering, keep its server features hosted and choose a supported mobile frontend arrangement.
How the PWAtoApp build workflow actually works
PWAtoApp costs €49.99 once for unlimited Android and iOS builds, with release signing included. This is build-dashboard access, not an agency redesign or a promise of app-store acceptance. Personal Google Play support is an optional extra; Apple signing files and developer accounts are not included.
- Prepare a compatible mobile source project and its ZIP. A website URL or an unchanged web export is not automatically buildable mobile source.
- In the dashboard, choose Android or iOS. For Android, choose APK for device installation or AAB for Google Play. Each submission creates only the selected output.
- Configure Android signing with an existing keystore or the create-keystore option. For iOS, provide your Apple Distribution .p12, its password and a matching provisioning profile; an available Mac worker is required.
- Submit one build, follow progress and open live logs if needed. Wait for that build to finish before submitting another, then test the output before publishing.
Before buying, check your project against the mobile source and readiness checklist. Build access does not include preparing every incompatible project for you.
Evaluate a customer portal in three steps
1. Test the difficult workflows first
A portal may look simple but still depend on SSO, document uploads, camera capture or external links. Create a requirements list and test each workflow in the chosen mobile environment. Do not assume desktop browser behaviour will carry over unchanged.
2. Ask for a feature-complete quote
For Median, identify the plan and any plugins or services needed for those workflows. For PWAtoApp, budget separately for any source preparation or custom integration work. Compare initial cost, first renewal and future releases with the same feature scope.
3. Plan account and signing ownership
Use developer accounts owned by your business. Record the bundle identifier, Android application ID and who holds signing keys. Check license renewal terms and what continued maintenance requires if you later change providers.
What neither tool removes from your launch checklist
Your website and backend still need reliable hosting. Packaging does not turn server code into code that runs on a phone, repair broken login flows or rewrite web screens as fully native interfaces. Test the installed app’s sign-in, navigation, file handling and permissions on real devices.
Developer accounts, privacy disclosures, store listings and review remain separate responsibilities. Apple’s minimum-functionality guideline 4.2 matters for web-based apps; no converter can guarantee approval. Consult Google Play’s testing requirements for new personal accounts rather than assuming an AAB is immediately eligible for production.
Our Android and iOS launch plan explains the work after compilation. Use the PWA versus native app guide to decide whether packaging fits your product at all.
Checklist before choosing PWAtoApp or Median
- Name every required integration and verify it in the chosen provider’s documentation and plan.
- Identify who prepares the source or app configuration, and who troubleshoots failed releases.
- Budget for initial charges, annual renewals, optional services, hosting and store accounts separately.
- Confirm control of app identifiers, developer accounts and signing material.
- Reserve time for installed-device testing and store review after the build succeeds.
When does the one-time package make sense?
PWAtoApp is a practical option when you can prepare and maintain compatible source and want repeat Android and iOS builds without a recurring build-package fee. Median may justify its recurring license when its platform and integrations solve work your team otherwise needs to do. Neither is automatically the best choice for every website.
Does Median charge separately for iOS and Android licensing?
The linked licensing documentation says one app license includes its iOS and Android versions. That differs from per-operating-system offers, so compare coverage carefully. Read PWAtoApp versus Despia for that pricing model or PWAtoApp versus free PWABuilder tooling if you prefer DIY.
