Lovable to Android: Choose APK or AAB and Create Your Build

November 6, 2026 · 5 min read

Your Lovable product can become an Android app without rebuilding every screen in Kotlin. The practical route is to prepare a compatible mobile project around your web experience, compile it and test the result. Before you start, decide whether you want a file to install on a phone or a bundle to submit to Google Play.

APK or AAB: pick the next step

FormatBest forHow it is used
APKDirect Android device testingInstall on a compatible phone with installation permission
AABGoogle Play distributionUpload to Play Console; Google generates installable packages

An AAB is not directly installable like an APK. If your immediate goal is checking the app on your own Android device, choose APK. When you are preparing a Google Play release, choose AAB. PWAtoApp builds one selected format per submission, so you do not create an unwanted second output.

Prepare your Lovable product for mobile

Use the published product on a narrow screen and complete its main workflows. Check the Android back button, keyboard behaviour, downloads and sign-in. If your mobile shell loads a hosted site, verify that the production URL uses HTTPS and stays available.

Choose a mobile packaging approach that fits your product. Capacitor can provide a native project; a Trusted Web Activity is a different approach for a hosted web app and uses domain verification. Neither option guarantees store approval, and the platform project must match what the build service supports.

Prepare the Android source project before uploading. Include its build configuration and required source files rather than just an arbitrary website export. If the Lovable product uses server functions, retain the hosted backend; those functions cannot be compiled into an Android app as server code.

Choose an identity you can keep

Your application ID identifies the Android app, commonly in a form such as com.yourcompany.product. Keep it stable once the app is published. Use a consistent name and icon, and increase the version code for subsequent Google Play uploads.

Configure release signing

In the dashboard, choose Android and the output format, upload your source ZIP and configure signing. You can supply an existing keystore or use the create-keystore option. Existing apps should continue using their established upload or signing identity rather than generating a different key for each update.

  • For an existing keystore, provide the file, keystore password and key alias.
  • Provide the key password if it differs from the keystore password.
  • Keep a secure backup of your signing material and record which app uses it.
  • Understand the difference between your upload key and the app-signing key when using Play App Signing.

Build, test and publish

Submit once and follow the build progress. Open live logs if it fails; the reported error should guide the next change. Wait until the current build completes before starting another, then download the selected output.

Test an APK on a real phone, or upload an AAB to an appropriate Play Console testing track. Review current target API, privacy and testing requirements in the Google Play developer help centre before requesting production access.

Builds and store review are separate
The €49.99 PWAtoApp package includes unlimited Android and iOS builds with release signing. Google Play account requirements, your listing and approval are separate. Compiling a signed AAB does not guarantee that Google will accept the app.
